Your backstage pass at LFW with KMS

London Fashion week is where trends are made, and KMS was right there in the action. This season, James Pecis took the helm at Simone Rocha, and Jawara led the hair team at Peter Pilotto.

James Pecis using KMS

Simone Rocha’s S/S19 collection was an ornate display inspired by the ancient Quing dynasty, and models were given a tomboy edge with texturised up-dos that fell around their faces. Dressed up in their Sunday best, these girls combined a wildness with intricate natural  beauty.

Step 1: Prep the hair with plenty of KMS Addvolume Root and Body Lift, before layering KMS Hairplay Playable Texture. Blow-dry the product in, and keep the hair moving to create height and body.

Step 2: Divide the hair into one inch sections, at both the front and lower half of hair and pull up the back section into a ponytail – spraying with KMS Hairstay Working Hair Spray as you go.

Step 3: From this ponytail, create two separate braids and pin them to the back of the head to create a horizontal line.

Step 4: Spray more KMS Hairplay Playable Texture Spray onto the front section of the hair and backcomb it away from the face. Once complete, pull it back 10 inches from the scalp and add in a roller to create a crescent up-do shape. Wind hair down and pin it into place over the roller.

Step 5: Take an elastic cord and put a dent in the roll. Saturate with Hairstay Firm Finishing Hair Spray and apply some cool air to lock in the shape.

Step 6: To amplify the messy, tomboy aspect of the look, pull sections out around the front to frame the face.

Peter Pilotto
Jawara using KMS

The party girls at Peter Pilotto wore bright eye shadow and patterned frocks with a 1970s vibe. Their hair reflected this with slicked down, flat roots and naturally textured ends – as if the models had been up dancing all night.

Step 1: Section the bottom layer of hair and spritz KMS Thermashaper 2 in 1 Spray at the root. Use a hairdryer directly where product was sprayed, and use a flat brush to pull the hair straight, ensuring no heat is applied to the lengths.

Step 2: Spritz KMS Hairstay Anti-Humidity Seal at the root then layer with KMS Hairstay Hard Wax – smoothing hair down to create a super sleek and flat finish. Continue this until you get to the top section of hair.

Step 3: When you reach the top section, use a rat-tail comb to create a clean, off-centre parting.

Step 4: Lightly mist more KMS Thermashape 2 in 1 Spray over top of hair and apply gentle heat to the hair, using hands to shape around the front of the face and pull behind the ears – smoothing but going with the natural kinks of the hair for an effortless and lived-in look.

Step 5: Spritz a little KMS Hairplay Sea Salt Spray onto mid-lengths and ends and tease (backcomb if more body is needed) to bring out natural texture and create the ultimate second day, post-party hair.
