Let’s channel our inner Elvis and celebrate the Teddy Boy brilliance of Mr Sam McKnight, Most Wanted Hair Icon of 2017, at Chanel Haute Couture
From hair wraps to croissant ‘dos, Sam McKnight often pulls out something a little special when it comes to his work with Chanel, and jaws were dropping all around Paris when he applied a little Teddy Boy rocker chic to the label’s latest Haute Couture show. We asked Sam how he curved up his Rockabilly Rolls just so – and this is what he told us. Thanks Sam!
Step 1
Brush hair back away from the face Apply mousse to hairline and top of the head. Section from temple to temple in a wide V shape, with the point at the top of the head. Clip away.
Step 2
Pull hair up into a ponytail just below the crown. Smoothing the sides and back with a soft bristle brush and Modern Hairspray from Hair by Sam McKnight. Cover the elastic with a fine section of hair from the underneath of the ponytail, wrapping it around and pin in place.
Step 3
To the top section, apply mousse and blow dry the roots up with volume on the sides using a comb to create bend and lift (see video). Spray Easy Up Do from Hair by Sam McKnight into the roots and backcomb into the roots.
Step 4
Smooth the sides with a soft bristle brush, and apply a pomade such as Cock Grease and a small amount through mid-lengths to ends. Brush over to one side and roll from the ends to the middle of the head, creating a double roll. Grip in place.
