New York Fashion Week A/W17

Love was in the, ahem, hair at New York Fashion Week A/W17 with romantic pussy-bows spotted on the blouses and in the hair at Tory Burch, while we fell hard for the pretty-as-a-picture twisted buns at Anna Sui. Here are the standout shows that captured our hearts…

Tory Burch

Hair team led by Guido for Redken

Inspired by Katharine Hepburn from the film Philadelphia Story, Guido prepped the hair with Redken Diamond Oil Shampoo and Conditioner to give hair a lot of shine. “To me, very clean hair can enhance individual texture,” says Guido. “I’ve pulled the hair back into a low ponytail and added this thick black velvet ribbon from Tory to evoke a romantic, sophisticated, soft, pretty look. I’ve kept the hair at a centre part to give a more girly, feminine touch.”

TIBI

Frank Rizzieri for Aveda

The look for this show was heavily inspired by menswear with Frank creating thick, healthy and face-framing hair on a multitude of styles and varying hair lengths. Aveda Thickening Tonic was used to help expand strands from root to tip, while Aveda Damage Remedy Split End Repair sealed ends. Although the hair lengths differed, the finish on the hair for all looks was luxe with a contemporary, wearable feel.

Anna Sui

Hair by Garren for R+Co

The Anna Sui A/W17 collection was inspired by Italian fashion designer, Elsa Schiaparelli, and the fabulous parties she used to throw. R+Co co-founder, Garren, was keen to emulate the fun side of the collection in the hair and created various looks based on length and texture. The main look was a modern version of the rolled hair. For models with curly textures, R+Co TWISTER Curl Primer was used to define the wave and curl, while the hair was styled into a bowl cut on models with shorter hair. For longer hair, two Minnie Mouse-style twists were created at the crown. The looks were finished off with OUTER SPACE Flexible Hairspray to lock in the knots at the crown and TROPHY Shine + Texture Spray (available in the UK from April) from mid-length to ends to encourage natural texture.

Prabal Gurung

Anthony Turner for Wella Professionals

It was all about the power ponytail at Prabal Gurung. Anthony Turner described the look as “homemade with a necessary sense of ease; a woman can achieve this at home”. Hair was dampened before applying Wella Professionals EIMI Sugar Lift all over and blow-drying the hair. Once dry, hair was combed in a deep side parting before applying Wella Professionals EIMI Rugged Texture for a matte finish. Hair was then scraped back into a ponytail in the middle of the back of the head and secured with an elasticated tie. The look was finished with Wella Professionals EIMI Stay Firm.
