James Pecis and ghd reach for the tongs to capture understated, youthful beauty at Roksanda S/S17

With Roksanda’s AW17 collection full of deep colours with an intellectual girl vibe, the hair needed to fit just so. “This isn’t a beach wave,” states session pro James Pecis, “It’s more polished and chic.” Reaching for the ghd Curve Soft Curl Tong, James created a youthful S wave, but with a warning. “Instead of wrapping hair all the way around the tong, press it against the barrel to achieve a natural S shape,” he said.

The parting was off-centre and slightly mussed up for an easy-going, youthful feel. “We created a crooked parting but not like the ‘90s harsh zig-zag look,” grinned James. “It should feel like the girls did it themselves.”

In the words of 90s favourite Montell Jordan, this is how we do it…

Step 1: Prep hair with ghd Advanced Split End Therapy treatment for a healthy looking, smooth finish.

Step 2: Prep roots to mid-lengths of hair with ghd Root Lift Spray to create volume. Blow dry into hair with an oval dressing brush – James used the ghd air. With a tail comb, create a mussed up, lived-in parting. It should feel natural and soft rather than the ‘90s zig-zag.

Step 3: Working in small sections around the head, tong hair with the ghd Curve Soft Curl Tong. Instead of wrapping hair all the way around the tong, press hair against the barrel to create a subtle U bend, then alternate the direction as you work down the section of hair to create this season’s S wave. Avoid tonging the roots and start at the ear level to keep it modern and undone.

Step 4: Add a small amount of ghd Smooth & Finish Serum to hands and smooth the ends by gently passing over the surface, this will help it feel “unfussy and fresh”. Finish by tucking hair behind ears.
