Session stylist Vicki Lord created a stunning, elevated ponytail look for soap star Shona McGarty at British Soap Awards
Set to walk the red carpet in a blue gown which perfectly complemented Shonaâs dark hair and gorgeous blue eyes, Wella colour master, educator and session stylist, Vicki Lord, was tasked with creating a complimenting look. Â
âThe key was to create a look that was edgy and glamorous while also reflecting Shona’s personality and individuality,â explains Vicki. By combining unique elements across her hairstyle, makeup, and accessories, the glam team created a stand-out look for the red carpet.Â
The stunning, sleek look can be achieved for various hair lengths by adding hair extensions. All you need is a long ponytail, and if the client has naturally long hair, then itâs even easier! With Shonaâs natural, shoulder-length hair, this is how Vicki used Keune styling products to get the look.Â
Get the look:Â
Step one: Secure the Balmain hair extensions in place before beginning styling.Â
Step two: Start by applying Keune Ultra Gel to damp hair, from the roots to the ends. This will help create a sleek and polished wet-look.Â
Step three: Now, using a pin tail comb, create a clean and straight parting. Select a parting that suits your clientâs face shape. Slightly off-centre partings can be flattering for most face shapes. Â
Step four: Next, once you have the desired parting, secure it in place using bobby pins to keep it neat and defined.Â
Step five: Prepare your ponytail by gathering the rest of the hair and secure it at the nape using a hair band. Â
Step six: Now, take jewelled ribbon and wrap around the base to disguise the hair band. Continue to wrap the ribbon further down the ponytail until youâre happy with the length and isolate a section of hair with each wrap to create a waterfall effect within the ponytail. Â
Step seven: To finish, use Cotril Gale Extra Strong Hairspray to ensure the hairstyle stays in place and use Keune Brilliant Gloss Spray generously, to give an overall illusion of lustre and luxury!
Top tip: If your client prefers a more understated style, simplify the look by just wrapping the ribbon or material around the base of the ponytail. Alternatively, create an intricate braid or twists instead.
