A new twist on a signature editorial look, session stylist Lauren Bell shares more about reinventing wet-look waves at The Coterie: In Session
The Look
A new take on head-hugging texture, Lauren Bell originally created the look for a show, and it started with a wig wrap. “Since then, I’ve progressed the idea further through adapting it and have used it countless times,” she says. “This particular technique creates a flatter shape, which is a bit alien but still beautiful.”
The Inspiration
“I like bringing different elements from different ages; a lot of stuff comes from things that have happened before and it’s nice to bring it back,” explains Lauren. “I’ve created a similar look before, but there’s always a new concept – I’ll find a fresh way to get excited
about it.”

The Method
To start creating the shape, Lauren began by using different sized tongs with different size sections and directions to create the initial curled texture. Towards the front, she added tighter sections before using lots of hairspray and netting to make it secure and tight.
Next, Lauren used the hairdryer on the medium setting with a diffuser attachment to to set the head-hugging shape. Some smaller pieces at the front of the head were also left out of the netting, and instead the BaByliss PRO Titanium Expression 10MM Ultra-Slim Wand was used, with texture spray to finish. “You wouldn’t necessarily know straight away what technique I had used to create the look, but I trust myself the more I do it. It’s become a, quick, trusted technique now.”

“A hair net is my best friend. It’s so underrated. The hairdryer with the diffuser is such a great tool on set, I’ll often not use anything else.”
