How clients can buy from you while you’re closed

Initiatives by professional brands are helping salons generate an income while their doors are closed. Here’s how you can encourage clients to spend while you’re shut…

Help Your Salon

These open-access voucher sites for the UK and Ireland have been unveiled by Henkel, the company behind Schwarzkopf Professional. However the sites have no brand affiliation, so it’s open for any salon or freelance hairdresser to user. provides a free platform for any salon or freelance stylists to personalise and sell digital gift vouchers, through a quick and easy registration process. There are no costs attached, and salons do not need an online shop – or even a website – to use it.

The plan is for the sites to help salons and hairdressers maintain a revenue stream and retain their customer base, while giving clients the opportunity to show their loyalty to their salon.  It could also become a useful way to prioritise appointments once salons and freelancers can reopen, with customers having purchased a voucher being offered the chance to be first in the chair.

What you need to do:

  • Register at – the process takes fewer than two minutes
  • Users create, or link to, an existing Business PayPal account (the usual PayPal for Business accounts fees will apply)
  • Users can personalise vouchers or donation cards with their logo and choice of service or amount
  • Users receive a link which they can send directly to clients or promote on social media or other marketing methods
  • Clients receive a personalised voucher for their salon, to use once it’s back up and running
  • All revenue will be sent directly to the salon’s PayPal account, with no middle-man or costs

However, be aware that you must seek advice from your solicitor, accountant or tax advisor and business insurer, who can provide tailored advice for individual cases to ensure income via vouchers and donations doesn’t compromise any state aid being applied for, or void business liability insurance policies.

Gift vouchers via Phorest Salon Software

Phorest Salon Software has launched an online gift voucher feature to all its clients across the UK and Ireland. Available directly in the software, the feature can be switched on quickly and salons can smart link their gift voucher purchase link straight into their email and SMS templates from within the Phorest marketing suite, making it easy to promote their salon’s new voucher service.

Having launched initially in the US, the gift voucher feature has been a hit, particularly for one Phorest salon with a team of 11. It sold $15,000 in gift vouchers online in four days, in the middle of the Coronavirus shutdown.

The beauty tech platform bgX offers a ‘plug and play’ option to help you start generating revenue, and delivers professional products to clients once purchased. It has partnered with Kérastase to deliver products to clients in London.

Customers can order from your salon via the bgX app for home delivery, and all deliveries are trackable and contact free. Darren Fowler of Fowler35 is one such salon already on board, and has described the service as”bringing a little bit of light safely into our clients lives right now”.

You can register at

Organic Colour Systems home delivery

The Organic Colour Systems range is only available to salons, but if clients let their stylists know what they need, the salons can order on their customers behalf. This can be forwarded to the Customer Services Team and shipped to the clients directly. The idea is to help salons continue to receive an income while closed.

Support your Salon programme

Balmain Paris Hair Couture has unveiled this initiative for its salons – each participating salon will receive a unique promotion code that they can share with their customers. With this code, the salon client can place an order on and when the code is entered at checkout, the salon that is linked to the unique code will receive the full salon margin of this order.

In addition, to thank clients for supporting their salon, Balmain Hair Couture will gift clients with free extras depending on what they’re ordering. For example, clients buying two full size Care or Styling products will also receive a free Balmain Hair Spa Towel.
