So, how was Grand Final night for you?
The Tate Modern is such an outstanding building and was the perfect place for the event… Best yet by far… And I’m not just saying that because I won! The place was inspiring that evening.
How does Most Wanted compare to other awards events?
It’s the way the evening is structured, and the emphasis that’s put on all avenues of the industry – not just the hair cutting and styling. You’re awarded for the effort you put in behind closed doors and that’s where the business graft is.
How did it feel when your name was announced as winner?
The feeling was like no other, I wanted it so bad! This was a new avenue for me, normally it’s my hair work that I enter competitions for so it was strange to be up for something different. I really believe in what I do in the industry and I was just so happy when I won. It was complete clarification.
What was it about your entry that caught the eye of the judges?
I think my entry stood out because I told the truth, and I didn’t hold back on anything, I’ve been working for 10 years to get to where I am today and it was all in there. Plus I think I have a fresh approach to what I’m doing which I think helped a lot…
What’s the secret to being a success, Angelo?
Don’t hold anything back. Be true to yourself. Have a clear vision and work towards it every day. Know what you want and you will get back what you put in!
Has your victory made a difference to your day-to-day life?
It’s helped me to focus more on my business, and given me the confidence to really go and get what I want out of my business and where I see it going from here. As for personal satisfaction, it’s great but never enough for me as I’m always wanting more!
What exciting things have you been up to since winning?
I’ve been shooing a lot with Ram Shergill, doing the hair for shoots for the likes of GQ and Drama magazine. I’m off to LA for work and play soon and then in March I have an audition for the Sebastian international global art team, and then I’m appearing onstage at Salon Smart in April, which I’m looking forwards to more than anything as I can’t wait to be part of it. It’s a busy year, but that’s what I love.
