Hairstylist and Wella colour ambassador James Earnshaw paints it black at DESTINATION 2023
Creating a contrast to his previous eye-popping, colourful shows doused in sequin, hairstylist and Wella colour ambassador James Earnshaw wanted to switch it up and bring something unexpected to the runway at Wella Company’s DESTINATION 2023. One of the largest industry events of the year, DESTINATION 2023, took place in Gran Canaria earlier this month. The three-day event saw over 1,200 hairdressing professionals from 57 countries come together for a stunning showcase of hair talent, artistry and networking opportunities.
Taking inspiration from Rihanna’s Savage X Fenty show, James says he leaned into a “new kind of sexy.” Promoting themes of modernity and inclusivity, the show featured a diverse line-up of models with a variety of hair types and textures, as well drag performers. Coupled with the show-stopping hair looks, models also sported darker make-up and clothing, creating a darker, sexier edge to the show, ‘Paint it Black.’
The hair was bold, with precise colour placements and an abundance of volume while maintaining movement and a hint of glamour. The models set alight the runway in faux-leather, feathers, and ruffles, among other captivating textures.
Other shows included Recalibrate by Anthony Cole and Briana Cisneros, Brazilian Signatures by Romeu Felipe, Supreme Reveal by Renya Xydis, In the Mind of Alexis Ferrer – a show around ‘the journey of a creation’ and Look and Learn, a series of digital inspiration sessions.
The event concluded with a gala dinner ahead of night-long celebrations with the announcement of the Wella International TrendVision Award 2023 winners.
