L’Oreal Colour Trophy Final 2015 – a big, bold and brilliantly entertaining 60th celebration

Abacus Hair Studio of Bewdley, Worcestershire, have been named winners of the 2015 L’Oreal Colour Trophy – the second time the salon has taken the title (they first won in 2010).

Their winning look, a long, multi-tonal blonde cloud of gently tousled corkscrew curls, was judged the best on the night by a panel of judges including Carolyn Newman, Andrew Barton and Sally Brooks.

The Colour Room, Stockport, took the Men’s Image Award, while Simon Webster Hair, Brighton, scooped the winning Mizani Afro Look Award.

This was the 60th Colour Trophy competition, and L’Oreal pulled out all the stops with a spectacular event at Battersea Evolution, London, hosted by Lauren Laverne. Celebrations included a series of hair shows from high-profile names including Adam Reed (a fun, impeccably referenced journey through the decades inspired by the music, fashion and culture of the last 60 years), Charlie Miller (mind-blowingly complex textures teamed with exquisite, ethereal shades of ice-blue, pale lilac and mauve) and the 20:20 Colour Collective (a celebration of all things blonde), all of whom made effective use of the unique revolving stage.

But the highlight of the night was the Trevor Sorbie presentation, which cleverly showed how ‘ordinary’ references – the lights on an escalator, the reflective strips on a cycling jacket – can be transformed into the unexpected, such as latex-clad models resembling sex shop mannequins, beautifully fierce looking urban Samurais and (our personal favourite), futuristic heroines sporting waist-length tinsel wigs that blew in the wind transforming them into human holograms.

Other highlights? Sixties icon Twiggy announcing the winners of the Young Colourist awards, and the vast, stylishly dressed venue that was offset by the warmth and camaraderie among the 1,500-strong audience.

A triumph!
