App-controlled AirLight Pro revealed at CES 2024 in Las Vegas, with UK launch planned for early 2025
L’Oréal is launching a hair drying tool that uses both infrared-light technology and wind to dry the hair quicker while making it smoother and more hydrated.
According to the global beauty giant, the AirLight Pro also uses up to 31% less energy consumption and will allow uses to customise its settings via an app. It will launch first in salons in the UK in early 2025 via L’Oréal Professionnel, before being made available to consumers for home use.
How does it work?
Patented LightCare technology has been combined with a blow-dryer. Where conventional heating hair dryers with only thermal rods, AirLight Pro has a special 17-blade, high-speed motor alongside its infrared technology that’s powered by tungsten–halogen bulbs, designed for fast hair drying without excessive heat. This means that both infrared light and high-speed wind is used to efficiently dry water on the hair’s surface, which then allows internal moisture to remain in hair strands.
According to L’Oréal, AirLight Pro delivers up to 33% more hydrated hair, up to 59% visually smoother hair, faster drying times, an enhanced user experience (based on feedback from professional stylists) and consumes up to 31% less energy.
More than 500 people across multiple hair types have tested the new tool, and the AirLight Pro is designed to adapt to the needs of the user. An app will allow each user can customise the settings for their individual needs.
L’Oréal has developed the tool in partnership with Zuvi, a hardware start-up created by drone engineers and scientists in which the French beauty giant has a minority stake through its corporate venture fund, BOLD Business Opportunities for L’Oréal Development.
Anne Machet, general manager for L’Oréal Professionnel, said: “We’re thrilled to partner with Zuvi and invent the new generation of hair dryer. Powered with infrared light, AirLight Pro offers superior professional performance for all hair types, with significantly reduced energy consumption. The new perfect companion for all hairstylists!”
