How to backwards your balayage

Wanting to paint clients back from blonde to darker? PAINTER Casey Coleman, founder of CHAIRSalons, has the plan! It’s called Backward Balayage…

Balayage is adored by clients, but some are looking to tone things down a little, and I’m really appreciating right now that there isn’t one particular way to create a balayage from blonde back to dark. Sure, you could just paint on a dark root, but that isn’t a balayage by far.

Instead, by taking a back to back highlight, followed by a slice (that would vary in thickness), and painting on a different root onto each section, you tend to create a gentler colour that looks expensive and organically put together. I’ve marketed this service as a Backward Balayage, and its proven to be super popular!
