Most Wanted Colour Expert 2018 – the final countdown

These colourists have wowed us with their exceptional technical skill and ability – but who was crowned this year’s Most Wanted Colour Expert?

Sophia Hilton, Not Another Salon

The 2017 champion retains her crown! Sophia has had another colourful whirlwind of a year. She spoke in front of the world’s top colourists at the L’Oréal Colour Congress, truthfully exposing the harsh realities of when hair colouring goes wrong. In the meantime she’s been on a mission to solve the ‘colour pandemic’ which is limiting her fellow colourists who are trying to meet unrealistic expectations. Her no-nonsense attitude, both with other colourists and with her clients, means there’s no room for misinterpretation – just brilliant colour.

Clayde Baumann, D+J Ambrose

A self-confessed colour junkie, Clayde has travelled the world to cast his discerning eye over proceedings at shoots and seminars as the Global Colour Director for D+J Ambrose. In his role of lead mentor for the 2018 Wella Generation Now team, he’s also been able to impart his encyclopaedic product knowledge on the next generation of colourists.

Sarah Black, Linton & Mac

Rules are made to be broken in Sarah’s eyes. An unshakeable ambition and drive fuel this young colourist, leading to her victory at the 2017 L’Oréal Colour Trophy Awards. Her natural instinct with shades and tints led to the role of colour expert being created especially for her at Linton & Mac, where she’s training up fellow rule-breakers to shatter fresh boundaries and expectations. We can’t wait to see what she dreams up next!

Claire Bonney, Radio Hair

As Radio Hair’s colour director, Claire leads her team with the unshakeable passion and experience for colour which has pushed her to perfect her craft across 17 years. For her, hair is a canvas begging to be painted, and the creation of her modern Colour Menu and subsequent Colour Manual has set Radio Hair’s artists up with the perfect tools for creating works of wearable art.

Casey Coleman, CHAIR

Casey is on a crusade to change the colour industry for good. Last year’s It List Visionary winner is living up to his title with his #PatchTestParty initiative. With an estimated 50 per cent of salons skipping a requisite patch test, Casey has been on a mission to make patch testing something to entice, rather than ignore, whilst also protecting colourists from potential lawsuits. There’s nothing patchy about his passion for safety and success! Nor his skill with unusual shades and tones to create new trends.
