The Chocolate Treatment

Jason Hogan, advocate colourist at Josh Wood Colour, shares his step by step guide to creating rich chocolate hues that are the ultimate sweet treat

Having worked alongside some of the industry’s leading colourists around the world,  Jason has come to be known for his multi-dimensional brunettes and bleach blondes, created using personalised solutions to ensure hair stays healthy and glossy. For his latest colour creation, Jason shares how he took a dark chocolate base and added milk chocolate ribbons, with white chocolate glints for the perfect seasonal colour shift. Follow the step below to indulge in your sweet tooth:

Step 1:

After dividing the head into four quadrants, work from the natural parting and use a horizontal placement, weaving and slicing for a more organic feel to the colour.

Step 2:

To lighten the colour, use a Kenra Lightner and 30vol on roots and mids with a 10vol mixture through the ends. Once processed to pale yellow, rinse and towel dry, then apply the porosity equalizer and comb throughout.

Step 3:

Again, working in quadrants apply demi formulas 5nb + 5a to the root, 7n to the mid-section and 9n to the ends. At the face frame, apply 7n to the root and 9n to mids and ends.

Step 4:

Once processed, shampoo and condition the hair then use a round brush to dry with, before using a blow dry spray and silkening gloss. Finally, use a blast of texture spray to finish.​
