Why I chose this look…
“With this look, it’s all about structure and strength. The shape was really important to create the edgy punk style. I wanted to take inspiration from the classic mohawk, but add a current twist by working with other materials.”
The references
“The main inspiration is punk rock and fearless hair with bold colours and bold shapes. The idea was to showcase that you don’t have to have a certain hair texture to be a bold rock-and-roll star.“
The creative process
“My model’s hair was very fine, so I first divided it into three asymmetric sections, starting at the nape of the neck and moving through to the radial section and securing each with gel and elastic bands. I used the BaByliss PRO 10mm Wand to create tight curls on hair extensions and then I brushed this out to form texture.
“Around my model’s hairline I wanted to feature kiss curls, but her hair was so straight that I used the wand to prep it and then a 25mm tong to fully shape the curls. Once the hair was cool, I used gel to mould kiss curls onto the side of the face.
“Next, I attached the extensions through the bottom and middle sections, keeping tension tight and winding around each section of hair until secure. I continued this through the front sections, but left out the braid ends so I could later create a faux fringe to add softness to the look. Because the model had roots and was a slightly darker blonde, to finish I used a coloured hairspray to add a pop of colour and also to blend in the two shades of blonde.”
What I love most about this look
“I love the bold shape running through the side of the hair – and also the addition of a pop of colour for a fun finish. And the faux fringe!”
