“I wanted to create a collection that reflected my creative journey so far,” said session stylist Josh Woodman of this shoot. “‘Refraction’ is a combination of commercial and editorial hair in which I showcase both my love of texture and the diversity of my work as a salon and session hairdresser.
“I chose to name the collection after light that’s deflected and makes images look off kilter or slightly out of focus as this perfectly sums up the impression I wanted to create. I’ve used unrefined and mixed textures, so the finished results are loose and not polished or staged. Too often collections are overly finished (or retouched) and the hair can look flat and dead. I wanted this collection to look alive.
“If I had to claim a signature look it would be waves – I love to create movement in hair, hair that has curves and waves that bring a style to life. My go to brushes for waves and body are the Head Huggers by Denman. On longer hair the larger ones create that gorgeous rolling wave that while soft in look is strong and lasting. The Head Huggers are also great for generating root lift and tighter curl.”
