Salons go BIG at the Big Hair Do 2021

One hundred salons, one big night – the Big Hair Do was back and bigger than ever for 2021

Hensmans, Northampton

Salons across the UK and Ireland came together in the name of great hair for the Big Hair Do 2021in association with Layered Online and Schwarzkopf Professional. Braid bars, blow-dry stations, client consultation and hair treatments ensued, along with countless glasses of prosecco, cupcakes, canapés, photo booths, retail raffles and even a four-legged friend…

From Newcastle to Norwich, businesses brought out the balloons and spruced up their styling stations for an “experience” evening to remember, demonstrating the skills of their team and highlighting the all the services they have on offer.

“I wanted to try and hone in on getting local people into the salon and shout about my team because I think everyone is amazing here and I want everyone to know about them!” Danielle Lois, manager of Headmasters Dulwich

With the wish to celebrate after the past 18 months, the team at Headmasters Dulwich felt it was more important than ever to attract the attention of locals, treat them to a pamper and demonstrate what is so great about the salon. “I’m hosting the Big Hair Do because we recently changed over from a franchise salon to a company one. Also because we’ve had COVID, we’ve had nothing to celebrate! And Headmasters are also celebrating 40 years soon. So we wanted to spoil clients,” said Danielle Lois, manager of the salon.

And the response? “It’s been such a treat tonight, I wasn’t expecting such a celebration!” cooed client Anna, who left with a silky smooth blow dry and a goodie bag packed with samples.

Billi Currie in London returned to the Big Hair Do following the success of previous events, and the desire to get the local community back together after numerous lockdowns. Director, Debbie Currie, said how it’s “a great event to just remind people that you’re here. It’s a way to say hello to existing neighbours, new neighbours, because people have changed around here”.

Welcoming in loyal clients and new, friendly faces, the night offered an opportunity to reach more people outside of the loyal clientele. “Already tonight I’ve spoken to probably six people I’ve never met before that were just passing. They thought ‘I’ve always looked at your salon and wanted to come in’ and tonight they get the opportunity to meet us in a way that is a bit lighter, a bit less pressure.”

The perfect way to re-engage with clients after numerous lockdowns, people flocked to the salons for advice on style and colour refreshes, tutorials on braids and waves, and towering top knots, while also discovering more about the array of Schwarzkopf Professional products on offer. Many also experienced the Schwarzkopf Professional Salonlab Smart Analyser, which worked as the perfect consultation tool for discussing individual hair needs and providing personalised haircare regimes.

Schwarzkopf Professional Fibreplex – a hydrating, protecting maintenance system for colour hair, used before, during and after (from home) applying colour – proved particularly popular at Seacombe and Co in Chichester. “We are really excited to be doing the Big Hair Do – to be one of the 100 salons in the country taking part. We opted for a daytime event – more relaxed and personal – where clients are getting treatments and goodie bags, cupcakes and mimosas,” said owner Simon Seacombe. “We’re promoting the importance of treating your hair, not only for clients who colour it, but discussing general wear and tear from pollution and heated tools.”

Alongside solving any pressing hair concerns, Big Hair Do attendees were pampered with a host of extra treats: Sallyanne’s Hair and Beauty in Knypersley got the drinks flowing with a prosecco and gin bar in a converted horse box, courtesy of The Giddy Aunt. Meanwhile, at Ed’s Hair in Stockport, the party was in full swing with an incredible performance from Viva Brasil Samba Show. Similarly, at Collective Hairdressing in Newcastle, guests were treated to a live DJ set from Hollie Disco Dollie.

Social media was of course a-buzz with #BigHairDo action. Guests made use of an impressive array of selfie stations, particularly at BE Ironbridge in Telford, where a photo booth was arranged to capture all the extra-special snaps from attendees.

Unfortunately, the evening had to draw to a close, but guests left with goody bags brimming with treats, including hair products and gifts from local appointments, plus hair appointments banked ready for autumn makeovers and Christmas party styling and so much new hair knowledge. One thing’s for sure, UK and Irish salons sure know how to throw a good party…
