Having opened his first salon in 1990 aged just 21, Welsh hairdresser Ken Picton is now owner and creative director of the award-winning Ken Picton salon, located at Mermaid Quay in Cardiff. Appointed President for The Fellowship back in 2019, Ken has spent the last three years encouraging greater industry diversity and paving the way for the next generation of talent. Regularly travelling for work, Ken leads shows and seminars to audiences in the thousands, works backstage on fashion shows and produces imagery that’s shared and coveted across the globe. His celebrity client list comprises presenters, actresses and sports stars, and includes the likes of Catherine Tate, Ruth Jones and the Welsh rugby team.
Fresh out of school, Paul Dennison joined a salon in Cardiff, working his way up through the ranks for more than a decade, before switching coastal Wales for the city streets of London. Keen to get more involved in photographic and show work as well as education, Paul was pulled back to his roots in 2011, and into Ken Picton’s salon at a pivotal moment for the business. Within weeks, he was on stage with Ken and within his first year of employment, Paul had graduated as a L’Oréal Professionnel Paris Colour Specialist, taking up the mantel to drive the salon’s colour team forward. Now colour director, Paul works closely with Ken across all pillars of the business, from educating on an international stage to regularly producing new hair collections and delivering phenomenal shows. When he’s not globe-trotting, Paul works a busy column of clients, creating beautiful, modern looks and colour that evolves with the seasons.
