Stylist Nicole McCormac talks prime colour services, hero products, and the family- run salon’s recent refurb

According to stylist Nicole McCormac at the recently refurbed The Hair Company, it’s a family affair. At the salon in Navan, you’ll find dad John McCormac, the co-owner, alongside mum Elaine, who’s also a stylist there. Nicole sat down with Creative HEAD to talk life after a refurb, offering best in class colour services and supporting young talent to thrive.

CH: What was the drive behind opening the salon?
 
Nicole McCormac: It was my mum’s 25th year of hairdressing, so her and my dad both felt it was time to embark on a new journey together.

CH: What does the business represent? 

NC: The Hair Company represents a passion for hairdressing, high-quality products, techniques, consultations and most importantly an enjoyable experience for our customers. 

CH: Who is your kind of customer? 

NC: Our kind of customer is anyone who wants to have a high-quality hair service in a friendly and relaxing atmosphere. We are lucky to have a wide range of clients who all enjoy coming to visit us for their hair experience. 

CH: What sort of environment have you created? 

NC: Physically, we’ve created a relaxing, cosy environment with warm tones in the wood along with features of gold and brass. Soft lighting around our backwash area was very important to create a calm area where our clients get to lie back and enjoy their experience. We believe that it’s a perfect balance between modern and vintage that will withstand the test of time.

CH: What services are you most proud to offer? 

NC: Having a colour specialist in the salon to be able to offer colour services to the highest standard was important to us. I’m proud to say that I am the salon’s ALFAPARF Milano Professional colour specialist. I offer incredible hair transformations that suit clients’ everyday lives. This includes low-maintenance blondes, and a must for this season, rich autumnal tones with seamless regrowth. Healthy hair is our number one priority, so we make use of a range of treatments to help us achieve this and prep the hair for optimum colour results. We exclusively use ALFAPARF Milano Professional, JOICO and Olaplex. We’ve recently introduced the Lisse Design smoothening system from ALFAPARF Milano Professional and have been getting unbelievable results.
 
CH: Any exciting things on the horizon that we should know about?

NC: We are so proud to be registered with the National Hairdressing Apprenticeship Ireland. We currently have two talented young women registered in our salon and we’re excited to continue to watch them go from strength to strength in our ever-growing industry. Also, this year is our tenth year in business, and we’re feeling incredibly lucky to have the support of our clients.
