The desire to be sustainable has evolved. Today, people want to make greener choices and the majority understand that sustainability is more than just a trend – it’s a responsibility!
So it comes as no surprise that salons throughout the UK are increasingly looking at ways they can meet their present business needs without compromising the ability of future generations to live healthily and happily.
Sustainability is about making intelligent choices, and these often come down to the initiative of the business owner and their team – and that’s what we’ll be looking for in our new Most Wanted category, Sustainability Hero, sponsored by Kao.
Sustainability Hero recognises a hairdressing salon, salon group or self-employed individual helping to change the way we live – for the better.
Our judges will want to see how sustainability drives core decision-making within your business – the design of your workplace, the products you use, the way you reduce, re-use and recycle materials and waste, the brands you partner with, the local independent businesses you support – as you look to impact the environment, as much as the hair you create, in a wonderful way. Through case studies you can also show how you’re bringing about positive change both within your business and also potentially influencing others to change their organisational practices as a result of being involved in your projects.
Says Creative HEAD publisher Catherine Handcock: “Currently the UK hairdressing industry recycles just 20% of the plastic it uses. Salons are increasingly conscious of the waste they need to dispose of, and are taking steps to introduce ethical and sustainable processes into their business missions. Sustainability Hero is about recognising these efforts to provide hairdressing as it should be.”
