Colourists Achieve Industry-First Degree-Level Qualification

Colourists Achieve Industry-First Degree-Level Qualification

The first cohort of expert colourists to achieve the Wella Colour Higher Level Diploma – the brand’s most advanced hair colour qualification, equivalent to a colour degree – have enjoyed a formal graduation ceremony at Glasgow University’s Clyde College.

by AMANDA | INFORM

The Diploma, an industry first, is a ground-breaking SCQF Level 9 qualification that recognises the professionalism and technical acumen needed to be a true colour expert.

The highly intensive course, which took the 24 students 20 months to complete, addresses subjects such as the biology and chemistry of hair, a unit on psychology with factors related to mental health, client safeguarding techniques and leadership, alongside considerations for maintaining sustainable and profitable business practices.

The course also included a visit to Wella’s R&D centre in Darmstadt, Germany, to gain insight into the process behind creating a leading professional hair colour portfolio.

Says Wella’s senior education manager, Paul Fensome: “We are thrilled with the success of year one of this course. It’s an incredibly challenging syllabus with academic modules designed to push experienced colourists to the limit.”

More than 520 guests explored London’s legendary Natural History Museum as Wella Professionals hosted the UK & Ireland TrendVision Award 2025 Final.

From the ‘Wella red’-bathed exterior to the presentation of finalist looks ascending the Earth Hall escalator into a giant globe, the event made the most of the iconic surroundings, with dinner, show presentations and winner reveals centred in Hintze Hall under Hope, the famous 25m blue whale.

Hosted by Patrick Cameron and Fergal Doyle, the night included three jaw-dropping shows with 25 models showcased artistry from some of the biggest names in UK and Irish hairdressing.

Surreal Colour: A Celebration of Emerging Talent presented a celebration of rising stars, spotlighting the 2024 TVA winners who have enjoyed mentoring by some of Wella’s guest artists (you might recall them working together for our March front cover shoot!). Mentors Stil, Sassoon Academy and HOB Academy presented bold, imaginative colour work crafted on nine models using the full Wella portfolio to incredible effect.

Shape Your World: A collaboration between Sebastian Professional and Koleston Perfect delivered edgier looks that pushed boundaries to mark the evolution of the brand, all craftedby Simon Tuckwell, Pedro “Plastic” Pinpao, Guy Kleinhaus, Dom Capel and colour direction by Nikki Clifford.

Start your engines – Wella Professionals is the new official partner of the F1 Academy all-female racing series.

Beginning with Round 4 at the Formula 1 Pirelli Grand Prix Du Canada 2025, Wella Professionals will be represented on the F1 Academy grid by Joanne Ciconte, in the Wella Professionals operated by MP car. Wella’s bespoke branding on the vehicle coincides with the launch its new global campaign Make It You, which champions self-expression through limitless creativity.

Ciconte will sport a specially designed race suit inspired by Wella Professionals’ iconic mermaid and signature red hue. The brand will also celebrate Make It You by emblazoning it on the rear wing of the #25 car.

Wella Professionals will run tailored events at key races throughout the season, with bespoke fan engagement activities located within the F1 Academy paddock. Through this partnership, Wella Professionals will also offer touch-ups within the F1 Academy Paddock Club suite from the company’s portfolio of nails and beauty tech brands OPI and ghd.

The multi-year global partnership between Wella Professionals and F1 Academy underpins the mission from both brands to inspire a new generation of women to pursue their ambitions and express their individuality. The deal follows a year of audience growth for F1 Academy with seven races across three continents in 2025, broadcasters in more than 170 markets and the documentary series’ F1: The Academy’ now streaming on Netflix.

Susie Wolff, managing director of F1 Academy said: “It is fantastic to see Wella Professionals, a brand driven by innovation and championing creative craft for more than 140 years, boldly back women’s sports while supporting our mission to fuel the future of women in motorsport.”
