The holiday season requires some serious prep to run smoothly. Have your game plan ready to get your hair business ready for Christmas says Sharon Brigden, founder of SLBPR, in our latest instalment of The PR Brief.
I know it might feel a little early to be getting into the swing of things for Christmas, but you have a massive opportunity this year to see the year our with a bang. Hopefully Christmas, along with Hanukkah and Diwali, will be much more normal following last year’s stilted celebrations. People are ready to go all-out and celebrate in style.
Start your Christmas promotion now!
By now you should have worked out your opening times and updated all of your clients. You should have this information front and centre on your website, and social media too. If you need to, tell clients that appointments are going fast so they need to get theirs in quick – create a demand and ensure that you’re not inundated with last-minute requests. For those wanting colour or any treatment that takes time I would strongly recommend asking for a deposit – you need to be protecting your business at this crucial time.
Christmas is a prime opportunity for retail – if you haven’t ordered your Christmas packs yet then get on that phone! You will also need pictures and prices to post on social media. Schedule this into your content shooting, or ask for high resolution images from your product partner to use. You can always create your own gifts packs with slower-selling stock with some sparkly cellophane and ribbons, easy peasy. Eco-friendly awareness is also at an all-time high, so be sure to tell people about your eco/ethical/sustainable gift options if you have any.
Can you offer a collection service or mail out products those who can’t get to the salon but want to buy gifts?
This is an ideal way to add to your bottom line without having to do too much work. Christmas gift vouchers are a must – the ideal present for those tricky to buy for friends and family, or a sure-fire winner for office Secret Santas. You should consider offering digital versions for ease, even if you usually offer just physical versions.
If you have quiet days send staff out to drop flyers promoting Christmas services and gifts to local businesses
If there are any big companies nearby that will be having a real-life Christmas party this year create a package for their staff to come straight from work to get glammed up. Team up with neighbouring nail bars or beauty salons to offer a full evening make-over service. If you have the space, clients can even drop their party clothes off in the morning or day before – making you the one-stop party shop! If you don’t have the space, flip this on its head and offer to come to their office with your salon pop-up.
Think about doing the same in-salon for New Year’s Eve – most people will be happy to see the back of 2021 and want to go out with a GLAM!
