SERIES TWO: Then and Now

Episode two: with Darren Fowler and Adam Reed

Pandemic pandemonium has left the industry in its most vulnerable state to date, but the owners of Fowler35 and Adam Reed London have stepped into the recording studio to share their experiences and remarkable stories and inspire us to look forward. Two decades ago, the idea of being honest and bearing all to other hair professionals was unheard of, but this pair is relishing an industry that is more reliant than ever on the supportive nature of those within it – and they’re talking candidly about it.

Before setting up their own salons, Darren Fowler and Adam Reed – both labelled as “creatives” – were advised against doing so. But recognising their skillsets and business acumen, they stuck to their guns and went on to build successful brands.

However, timing was against Adam’s first solo venture. He opened Adam Reed London just weeks prior to the March lockdown, and he’s not sugar-coating the fact 2020 has been one of his toughest years ever as a result. But a combination of reputation, resilience and the support of a strong, skilled team is helping Adam navigate the rough seas ahead.

Darren, who’s been calling the shots at Fowler35 for the past five years, is constantly seeking new ways to keep his successful shop relevant and his stellar team motivated. Through continuous education behind the chair and creative opportunities away from the salon, he works hard to provide choice and balance for every staff member.

A foundation of friendship and a mutual respect has ensured these chaps remain firm fixtures in each other’s lives. Join Darren and Adam – businessmen, creatives, salon owners and team players – in this funny yet moving episode…
