To Edinburgh, with the #SydSquad!

The Coterie’s returning to Edinburgh on 16 March, and we’re in first-class company!

Scotland’s capital city will be fizzing with star quality as The Coterie – Creative HEAD’s networking event for hair and fashion professionals – settles into Dovecot Studios in Edinburgh to hear from an awesome cast of creatives – all exceptional talents in their own rights, but together they are the awesome #SydSquad!

Led by Syd Hayes, and working backstage and on set for an incredible catalogue of big brands, magazines and designers, the #SydSquad has made a name [or should that be hashtag?] for itself, featuring some of the UK’s coolest session talents – and it’s time to meet them!

Syd Hayes is one of fashion’s most sought-after session stylists, collaborating regularly with the world’s most famous brands including Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Valentino and Givenchy and called upon by magazines such as British Vogue, Vogue Italia, Self Service and i-D to shoot editorials. Mert Alas & Marcus Piggott, David Sims, Alasdair McLellan, Willy Vanderperre, Sølve Sundsbø, and Juergen Teller – some of the most established and respected photographers in the industry – have Syd on speed dial, and he’s led the hair teams backstage for Christopher Shannon, Sibling and Mary Katrantzou amongst others.

It seems impossible he has the time, but Syd is also creative director at family-owned Q Cut salon in Kew, Surrey a brand ambassador for BaByliss PRO and his great passion for educating and inspiring current and new hairdressing generations has seen him host, speak and style at a variety of Creative HEAD events over the years. #RespectSyd.

Winner of Creative HEAD’s first ever Independent Stylist trophy at the 2019 Most Wanted Awards, Paula McCash is one of session’s – and the UK’s – most exciting emerging hairdressing talents. She’s already headed up shows for LFWM, seen her work published magazines including British Vogue and LOVE and she’s styled hair for high fashion and streetwear brands like Ralph Lauren and Jack Wills, amongst others. Born in Scotland and now London-based, Paula has been Syd’s first assistant for four years.

Not only is Sam Burnett the owner of two successful salons in London and Esher (Hare & Bone), he is a serious star in session too, having worked with brands including Tom Ford, Pam Hogg, Bora Aksu and Sophia Webster and celebrities including Dua Lipa, Erin O’Connor, Charli XCX, Daisy Lowe and Jessie J. He’s co-hosted The Coterie In Session, creating exceptional work live on set (he’s also appearing on Salon Smart’s main stage on 30 March, another date for your diary!) and his beautiful work has featured in ELLE, Dazed and Vice magazines, Plus, of course, Sam’s a core member of the #SydSquad – somehow managing to juggle it all!

Last but by no means least, there’s Christopher Miles, a non-hairdressing member of the squad but equally as pivotal! Christopher began his career working in production at the creative agency Lloyd & Co. In 2006, he transitioned to artist management at the New York headquarters of creative agency Art + Commerce, where he spent over eight years developing relationships with some of the most esteemed artists in fashion. In 2014, he relocated to the United Kingdom to launch Art + Commerce’s London-based Hair, Makeup, and Styling Division, where he manages the profile of one Mr. Hayes.

Hear from this cool crew about operating as a team, sharing responsibilities, tackling tough briefs, traveling the world, and balancing #SydSquad projects alongside other work commitments. They’ll be plenty of conversation, lots to look at and time to meet all four squad members back at the bar.

But that’s not all!

We’ll also get the fashion low-down from Pamela McCallum and Connor Reilly from Scotland’s longest established model agency, Model Team! Collaborations with the likes of Celine, Calvin Klein and Ralph Lauren are daily occurrences for this forward-thinking trendy unit!
