Velvet has always been a luxurious fabric associated with royalty,” says Virginia Martinez of the inspiration behind her ‘Velours’ collection. “It’s an object of desire due to its extraordinary softness and the complexity of its manufacture. And it’s also loaded with a strong symbology of power – it has been present in the grand cloaks of medieval kings, as well as on stage with artists like Prince.

“Today velvet has been democratised and is part of our wardrobe, although it is still associated with sumptuousness,” she adds. “The powerful language that it transmits is what has inspired this collection; rich textures produce interplays of light that are combined with saturated, vinyl tones. The result, unique and extraordinary, is an exquisite and deeply contemporary combination.”
