Wella TrendVision 2020 UK and Ireland finalists revealed

Wella TVA2020 Finalists

The process may have been different, but the competition was still fierce.

Over the past few weeks, the Wella TrendVision 2020 photographic finalists have been flexing their creative muscles, distilling their inspiration and techniques into three minute video presentations for the regional heats.

Across both the UK and Ireland, talented hopefuls in each of the six categories (including our six Spotlight Competitors) uploaded self-filmed submissions, after the coronavirus pandemic forced the regional heats to take on a new, digital format. An esteemed panel of judges from both nations then pored over the footage to select the top performing competitors, and were universally impressed by entrants’ confidence in their techniques, inspirational and innovative approaches when it came to styling and colour, and expression of the brand identities across the Wella Professionals portfolio.

Who ticked all the boxes and will be progressing to the next stage of the competition?

Due to social distancing regulations, the live UK & Ireland TrendVision Award 2020 Grand Final, due to have been held this autumn, is unable to go ahead. Instead, Wella are putting together a comprehensive digital brief for those who have made it through to the final.

As well as outlining their next steps, this brief will provide competitors with a category-specific task,  which will involve creating a brand new look and submitting it online with supporting videos and photos.

Judge, Akin Konizi, said the introduction of the new filmed elements has been refreshing and has brought a whole new dimension to the Wella Trend Vision judging process. “It gives us an opportunity to see the person behind the creation and hear their passion and inspiration in their own words,” he explained.

In terms of tips for finalists with their eyes on the Gold category prize, Akin’s number one recommendation is having your look to hand before you step in front of the camera. “When you are filming, make sure you have a picture of the before and after on show to remind us of the images as you are talking, he added. “Keep it simple, relevant, interesting and concise. Make it as exciting and full of enthusiasm as you can without overdoing it! Remember, it’s not about you, it’s about your work and inspirations, so don’t feel self-conscious. Just be yourself and be professional.”
