She’s launched The Hair Lounge in Notting Hill and her own range of hair care, as well as scooping awards for her textured hair expertise – so Charlotte Mensah is the perfect brain to pick on how best to grow your business and cater for clients with textured hair
In this economic climate, few salons can afford to turn clients away, yet that’s a common complaint still heard by clients with textured hair. Ensuring your staff are properly and confidently trained in working with textured hair, and by actively promoting the fact that your salon caters for everyone, will help you attract a larger and more diverse client base. And catering to a wider clientele will in turn help to increase your revenue.
“The Afro-Caribbean market is booming thanks to consumers who typically spend eight times more on hair and beauty services,” explains Charlotte Mensah, who has recently launched her debut book, Good Hair: The Essential Guide to Afro Textured and Curly Hair. Here, Charlotte shares her top five tips to help you expand your client base through building your brand’s skills when it comes to textured hair services.
- Invest in Training
Once you have decided who will become your Afro experts in the salon (for example, whether it will be specific individuals or the entire team), invest in training. The more quality education your team receives, the more confident they’ll feel and the better the results will be for your clients.
- Promote your services online
Once your team is fully trained in terms of technical and general knowledge, it’s time to let existing and potential clients know that you are able to cater for their needs.
- Promote your services in the salon
As well as adding your new services to the in-salon menu, price list etc, use imagery and posters to visually promote that your expertise extends to all curly hair textures.
- Host a launch event
An event – even virtually – is another way to highlight your new offering. By demonstrating your Afro skills on models, customers will get to see your Afro hairdressing expertise first hand!
- Choose the right product partner
This will help ensure that you not only achieve great results by hydrating and protecting your clients hair, but also the team receives great support.
