ANDREW COLLINGE

16:05, Monday 25 March – THE GREAT DEBATE: THE APPRENTICE: HIRED OR FIRED?

Following in the footsteps of his grandfather and father, Andrew Collinge’s impressive career has spanned over 40 years seeing him called upon for hairdressing shows and trade events the world over from Sydney and Tokyo to Paris and of course the UK.

For Andrew, it all began in 1974 with an apprenticeship in his father’s salon in Liverpool, before completing his training two years later at the top London salon Michaeljohn. It was there he found himself assisting Michael Rasser on Vogue photoshoots or in styling the hair of royalty, heads of state and A-list film stars as well as working alongside Robert Lobetta.

Together with his wife, make-up artist Liz Collinge, he went on to join ITV’s This Morning becoming known for makeovers, which led to the duo opening a makeover studio in iconic location, Harrods.

Fast forward to today and there are now six Andrew Collinge salons plus two stand-alone Graduate salons and a Training Academy, all situated in the North West of England. The company continues to produce top class hairdressers many of whom are now senior tutors, salon managers or members of the creative team, including the likes of fellow Salon Smart speaker Tom Connell, artistic director at Trevor Sorbie.

With an ethos centred around training and development as the bedrock of progressive business, Andrew and members of the training team were recently received a Princess Royal Training Award from HRH The Princess Royal at St James Palace recognising the Graduate Salons and how they provide excellence in training and skills development to newly qualified stylists. Andrew Collinge Hairdressing was first company within the hairdressing community to receive this coveted award.
