Trailblazer Sophia Hilton opened Not Another Salon on London’s Brick Lane in 2015 ‘for those bored with salons’. Her pioneering ‘anti-factory’ ideology, which includes a ‘no-judgment’ policy and gender-neutral pricing, has gained her column inches and industry plaudits, while her Instagram following of almost 250k sends a steady stream of clients to her door, eager to experiment with the salon’s signature bold, creative colour. Leading from the front, Sophia’s values run though the Not Another brand extensively: “Be really great at your job and be really, really nice.” Having recently expanded with Not Another Academy and teaching roles in five different countries, Sophia is keen to point out: “From a salon perspective, I love it being small and I love the fact that I know all my staff personally… And while it is great to be earning money now, that’s not my ambition. My ambition is to make an impression on the industry.”
